Synopsis

Hammy's Gold takes us back to the early days of the gold rush to visit the claims of the first miners and search the creeks and crevices to see if they left any gold behind. Often they did. Alan and his prospecting mates used more modern equipment than the old tin pans of the early miners. They adapted diving gear, car parts and occasionally resorted to dynamite to get at the gold! What great trips they had away up those valleys...always on the search for another rich patch.

About the author

Alan describes himself as 'one of the original blokes who was born and bred in the early days of Queenstown'. As a boy he delivered milk to families around Queenstown and after leaving school in 1946, he returned to the area to farm at Arrow Junction. He spent many years shearing on local sheep stations. Alan still lives and farms at Doonholme, Arrow Junction.
